Families Unite for Flood Victims – Let’s Do This!
Friends. My heart has been heavy. Super heavy about the flood victims. I watched coverage on Fox the other day – hearing story after story about how this flood took out everything from families just like me and you.
Y’all this isn’t just one neighborhood or two. This is THOUSANDS!
I don’t think we can get our arms around this unless we are there. Imagine walking out and getting in a boat and leaving your home. Coming back and gutting it WITHOUT insurance. Then, trying to replace a house and belongings without insurance – because you didn’t NEED IT insurance when you are NOT IN A FLOOD PLAIN.
So… then my heart went to these kids and families.
And of course – they need MONEY. And Samaritan’s Purse and Red Cross and all the folks we love are on the GROUND.
What can I do? What can we do? How can we involve our kids to show THEIR KIDS that we care? That THIS is the body of Christ? That we can stop our days in our warm houses and dry schools and show up.
I contacted Samaritan’s Purse and they were awesome. Their volunteers are focused on cleanup. So, they suggested I contacted the local church where they are camped out.
I heard back right away from the pastor over SUPPLIES at Gleenwell Baptist Church. So, here is OUR PLAN. Our plan as a group of families and kids – to show the FAMILIES of LA (#Families4LA) that we care. That they are not forgotten.
We are showing up in THREE ways:
1. MAKE RAINBOW CARDS
Have your chidren make cards with RAINBOWS and include NAME/AGE of your child. And your state! They will be giving these cards out to children that come in with their parents for supplies.
Sample card by me – my girls are coloring their photos tonight.
Let’s remind these kids about God’s promises and that there is hope. This is not the end of our friends in Louisiana. You can do as many cards as you want.
This photo was taken in Texas as volunteers from Samaritan’s purse were about to go help the victims. Rainbow.
2. SEND – Diapers, Baby Food, Formula, Wipes or Gift Cards
PLEASE SEND ONLY THESE ITEMS at this time! Please stay focused on these APPROVED items – or we will create more work for them to sort and organize. If you want to give money – please donate to these reputable and trustworthy sources linked below.
I have received this question – do they need this? YES! I got the list of supplies from the church. You are WELCOME to just donate. They need tons of money. Or, they confirmed gift cards to Target or Walmart are great. However, part of my goal is to take my kids to the store and let them pick out needs and understand that fact that families need baby food and wipes and diapers. Let them pack it up. Take it to mail it. For me – it’s much about providing a real need to families in Louisiana while simultaneously showing my kids what service and generosity looks like.
3. PRAY FOR THESE FAMILIES
Have your family commit to prayer each night for the families. Place a picture of the flood near the center of your dinner table so we don’t forget.
ADDRESS?
Greenwell Springs Baptist Church
Families 4 LA
19421 Greenwell Springs Rd.
Greenwell Springs, LA 70739
If you’d like to make a financial contribution – you can do that one of these places. Please consider a donation. Our supplies will certainly help but they are rebuilding their entire lives so they need us.
Greenwell Springs Baptist Church
Our friends in Louisiana need us. You can use hashtag #Families4LA to help spread the word.
Please share. Reshare. Post everywhere. I want the church to be flooded with cards for these families. Money to pour in for this church. And their post office box to be overwhelmed with baby supplies as a sign of God’s love.
I want these families to know they are NOT ALONE and we stand with them.
Let’s show our kids – that there’s a time to pray and there’s a time to help our neighbors too.
Thank you so much for promoting Samaritan’s Purse. I am a disaster response nurse with them (have been for 6.5 years) and I can vouch for them, that they are EXACTLY who they appear to be. They are very careful with donations and have great accountability. They work hard to help people all over the world in the most practical of ways. They also encourage by sharing love, the gospel of Christ, and giving people hope.
samaritan’s purse is the best! thank you of your work!!
Thank you so much for doing this groundwork! I sometimes want to help but just don’t know how and what. We can’t fix everything for these people but we all can do something. Estes family from VA is IN!
awe – thanks paige!
Can we purchase things through Amazon and have them shipped to the church?
Also, Convoy of Hope is a fabulous ministry that is on the ground working to help the flood victims. I’ve seen first hand the amazing work they do.

After I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the identical comment. Is there any approach you can remove me from that service? Thanks!
