God’s Word Plus Mom’s Love – Graduation Gift
I am so excited to see the great reaction to this over on Instagram! How fun. I’m getting lots of questions, so this is quicker.
It started from a SLUMP with my Bible. I started getting back into the word from a “have to” not a place of “want to” and I didn’t like that feeling.
So, I decided to get the ESV Journal Bible that has a place you write notes in it. Who knew! My pastor Zach Van Dyke at Summit suggested we read through our Bible and make notes in the margin. It hit me that it would be so neat to make notes to the girls right beside verses that were meaningful to them.
And, then give to them as their high school graduation gift!
During the UPS and DOWNS of their life – OVER YEARS – what if they had my encouragement or my thoughts on why that verse was something special just for them? I could highlight a verse I prayed for that year? Or one that I clung to during a certain struggle for them? Or one we used during the best of times.
So, I bought TWO ESV Journal Bibles – one for each child of mine. The one I liked at Lifeway was WAY expensive, so I found one on Christianbook.com that is no longer there. 🙁 It was $35.99. So I found one similar HERE. And then a couple for you from Amazon below to consider.
Just make sure they have the space to write – a “journal” Bible and I really like the ESV version for this.
Just remember, please do not add stress or guilt. Use this as a tool to REIGNITE your thirst for the Word. It will also fill you up. The verse I looked up for Ella this morning absolutely fueled my soul too. I want to arm my girls for life. I might not write in this every day. It would be an amazing graduation gift even if they had one or two verses per YEAR highlighted. Do not add stress. Just consider the eternal impact if they knew over a lifetime, their mom leaned into God’s word, believed it was true and used it as her guide for their life.
I believe you are awesome and God love you so very much.
I absolutely LOVE this idea! It is also very “orange”! You should definitely pass this idea along to Reggie Joiner or someone else on the Orange team! Thanks so much for this post! Now… off to amazon I go! 🙂
I think it’d be neat for a dad to do, too!
agreed! i think ron will definitely be adding his thoughts in there too.
Such a sweet idea, thanks for sharing!
Did Taylor Wise write about this?
Good call Ash – maybe! I can see her doing this for sure. I’ll go check to see if I read that. Unfortunately, I’m not current on my blogs reading right now.
I love this idea and fits right in with what we just started this year! We chose a bible verse each year for your children. We traced each of their hands and I framed the verse and hand print together and hung them in their rooms. I plan on laminating them and making a book for when they go off to college!
my bibles arrived yesterday, can’t wait to get started. thanks for the idea, even if it wasn’t yours to begin with 🙂
