Has Anybody Told You You’re Beautiful?
This afternoon, I had one of my favorite moments as a mother.
I can’t see the screen right now because I’m crying as I type these words.
It meant that much to me.
As you know, my Ella has been struggling with her glasses.
I know there are far worse issues – but it’s real to her.
She sees her reflection and doesn’t like it.
It is growing her character and giving us MANY chances to remind her the source of true beauty and what God has to say about her.
My friend Cara from high school told me about Veggie Tales’ Sweetpea Beauty a while ago and we watched it once.
It didn’t blow me away because I hadn’t faced the issue of “beauty” up close with my girls.
Then, she mentioned it again when Ella had this glasses struggle.
I found it today and we watched some on the way to school and after.
(YES, we watch too much DVD in the car. Please have it in your hearts to get past this point.)
On the way home, I was so overcome with the lyrics and this song.
PLEASE PLAY at this moment.
Tears were streaming and I was singing at the top of my lungs.
I turned back and they were BEAMING.
Seriously, not to freak you out, but it was a MOMENT.
I believe it was bigger than me and I am thankful.
I stopped the car and kept singing,
reached around and grabbed their sweet legs and looked so deep in their eyes.
HAS ANYBODY TOLD YOU? YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL!
(to my Ella)
HAS ANYBODY TOLD YOU? YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL
(to my Larson)
I can’t describe their eyes. It was pure joy and peace.
They were being filled with HIS LOVE, the truth of it all.
This is not about me as a mom… keep reading … it ends with YOU.
I proceeded to tell them …
YOU KNOW… every DAY of your life, I am going to tell you that you are BEAUTIFUL and that I LOVE YOU.
Even on the days you don’t want to hear it or you think it’s old news, I’m going to say it again.
You’re Beautiful Girls! Mommy loves you just how He made you!
They were beaming.
YOU GUYS! This movie and this song.
It does the BEST job of opening their little hearts to the idea that HE created them and how HE sees them just as they are. Put it on your Christmas list stat.
Today will be a day I won’t forget and I’m buying this song to add to our
“holy crud Dad better get home fast – witching hour” dance party mix
and twirl those babies around.
Then, I kept crying as I tried to receive the words for me.
And, then I cried some more trying to think about how to say it to you.
We each need to sit with these words and this song for a minute.
Hair by some children in my playroom
The CREATOR of the universe really, really did create ME.
My my super hairy legs, my sometimes adult acne, my workout ensembles, my little bit crooked teeth, my thick brown hair, my intense personality, my creative brain, my casper legs, my love to encourage and passion for fun/joy – He created me and I’m beautiful. OH if I could see me how He sees me!!!
And, He created YOU.
HAS ANYBODY TOLD YOU??
You’re Beautiful
YOU MIGHT AGREE IF YOU COULD SEE WHAT I SEE.
EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU IS INCREDIBLE
YOU SHOULD’VE SEEN ME SMILE THE DAY THAT
I MADE YOU BEAUTIFUL…
FOR ME!
And, just a reminder for the percent of folks that goes straight to guilty mom – it was only 30 minutes later we were all three losing our minds at Target and headed home for consequences. Remember – real mom. Real kids.
