Identity in Christ
When you walk into a room – do you quickly name drop your career or company, your book name, your kids sport, your school?
I do. I am guilty.
I have spent so many years battling my identity.
I KNOW my most secure and safest place to root my identity is in CHRIST – so I why do I continue to place my assurance in things that are fleeting?
I asked Jeannie Cunnion, author of Parenting the Wholehearted Child, to join me for a conversation on this topic. She is a dear friend and one of my very favorite writers on the topic of grace in parenting.
Enjoy and please …. be patient. This was CLEARLY our first attempt at a Google hangout. We are in no mood to start anything – a podcast, periscope, etc. We THOUGHT this was the easiest way to record a conversation. But we are clearly challenged by technology.
We will discuss:
- Importance of mentors
- Your identity in Christ
- Parenting your kids so their identity is in Christ
- Blog post mentioned – There You Are by House of Hendrix
NOTE: It was live – but this is the taped version now on YouTube.

Books to consider on this topic:
- Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning
- Good News for Weary Women by Elyse Fitzpatrick
- Classic Christianity by Bob George
- Love Idol by Jennifer Dukes Lee
This is such an important topic that sadly, most Christians that I know of, are completely unaware of! I was in the dark about this topic until I was 30 years old and I was raised in a minister’s home!
My favorite books about our identity in Christ (both by Dr. Neil Anderson) are:
– Victory Over the Darkness: Realize the Power of Your Identity in Christ
– The Bondage Breaker
Wow. So encouraged by this … and incredibly grateful for the link to Love Idol! Thanks, Courtney and Jeannie. You are rare gems.
(Also, how does she look so cute this close to labor???)
This was great! Thank you! I feel like I was just having coffee and good conversation with friends!
I just got to watch this. So cute! Thanks for being real, laughing at yourselves, and sharing this important topic and encouragement.
Thank you ladies I have been struggling with this topic since I took a job in food service after leaving the medical field. Always inspired by you!!! Love your friendship and bond.
