I have a lot of words, too many words

KISgraphic3 (1)

I have a lot of thoughts and words. And there’s more bad news. I am pretty courageous and bold. So, it doesn’t really matter who is there or around the table. I just share. Eek.

This combination (full of words and confidence) can be a strength. I am not afraid of confrontation or being shut down – I just share ideas, thoughts and more.

However, as I am slowly maturing and craving Jesus in all of me – I am realizing how my mouth can be a weakness.

  • Have you ever had to delete something you wrote on social media?
  • Have you ever had to apologize for a quick comment or email?
  • Have you ever been misunderstood?
  • Have you ever turned red from embarrassment in a meeting?

I have.

This mouth can be used for such good. Amazingly good things. I have used it to inspire, motivate, share God’s love, teach, speak love and life, affirm, build others up.

My mouth has been used for bad. I have hurt others. I have shared secrets. I have joked when it wasn’t funny. And on and on.

This is why I am CRAZY about Karen’s new book Keep It Shut. Here is what I said in my official endorsement in the book.

Everyone with a mouth like mine needs this book! Karen Ehman has a gift. She shares a message we need to hear in a way that is helpful, not condemning. I’m thankful for how Karen encourages women to lead like Jesus from head to toe.” – Courtney DeFeo

When she sent me the endorsement request, I texted back and said, “Thanks Karen. Great. Is your next one called “Stop Instagramming!” ? She had already rocked me with “Let It Go” about being a control freak and NOW I have to reign in my mouth.

Necessary encouragement in the sweetest way.

Straight shooter that makes you laugh.

Real deal.

That’s Karen.

  4. I LOVE the title of this book! How often I need to be reminded that God is in control. Stepping back for even a second or two allows me to give whatever it is to Him in prayer , and realize that He is already on it. He is the Alpha and Omega and already knows what the outcome will be if I surrender all to Him. Being quiet is not being weak. Being quiet is strength in action as we get our strength through Him moment by moment, situation by situation.

  5. i had to laugh out loud when your email popped up this morning. boy do i have a lot of words. i was at work in the midst of editing my too long explanation to something – knowing i had made the point maybe 100 words ago and that it was time to stop! i cannot wait to add this book to my library – a little correction given in love is never a bad thing. thanx for sharing!

  6. Wow. That meme…the ‘use mouth/Godly purpose ‘one. OUCH! yes, I too need this. And it applies to our thumbs/fingers in text messages too I think. (Just stilled my thumbs the other day, w/an adult child. Lol?)
Thanks for offering this giveaway! I know I need this book. I know my women’s Bible study group needs it. Perhaps the larger group (mixed, males, hubbies, teens etc) needs it too. But, don’t think I will persuade anyone to go thru it. 🙂
Whether I win or not, I’m looking forward to reading this.

  7. Would love to win this! I study scriptures and pray about my mouth. I know a book isn’t what will cure my mouth issue on The Lord, but could use some points to ponder!

  8. Can’t wait to read this book by Karen! It is something I’m working on watching–my words this year! I need to be a better listener, too!!

  9. This book is exactly what I have been looking for! My Sister and I just last week were talking about trying to hold one another accountable for being less negative and being gossipy about our husbands. This would certainly be a very great tool in my marriage. Excited about this book!

  10. Just met with my accountability partner last week and handed her a card with verses to pray for me about being utterly ruthless about my mouth. Anxious to read Karen’s thoughts!

  11. I’m blessed to live in the same town as Karen, and she has done some speaking at my church. I NEED this book, because my mouth won’t zip sometimes. And then I have to lay awake at night and keep asking myself WHY WHY WHY won’t you learn? 🙂

  15. A New Years Resolution: Take my time before posting to a post! Sometimes I ‘react’ or ‘respond’ and forget to acknowledge, feel, say thank you, be encouraging. Taking a step back. This book can help! Thank you.

    Peace be with you!

  18. I would love to win this book it will help me with listening to God instead of voicing what I think he is telling me.

  19. Hello!
I’m afraid I need this book and I’m sure everyone who knows me would agree!! My 3rd Grade teacher told me I had “diarrhea of the mouth.” – Enough said!
Winning a copy would be a blessing, as I haven’t yet been able to pay this month’s rent.
P.S. Seeing the promotion of this book on P31 confirmed My One Word for this year: QUIET.

  20. My lips/mouth have gotten me in more trouble than I care to remember. Like Karen stated once the words are spoken they can’t be taken back. It’s very hard to repair the damage our words cause and sometimes impossible. Most of us could use help with this.

  21. I would love to win This. This book is perfect for what God is revealing to me on what I need to do different. Towards myself, husband, babies. I would be tickled to win this. So.. “hello!” Pick ME ME ME ME!!!!

  22. My pastor used to say that sometimes it’s best to practice the “ministry of silence”—often easier said than done! Looks like this book will be a helpful tool to do just that.
