Real Deal – meet Jennifer Scott

I want you to meet my friends, the contributors of this blog. They are the real deal. I didn’t ask them to be on here because they have the biggest following or the biggest book deals – I asked them because they are the real deal.

With 1 million mom blogs out there, I spent some time lately clarifying why this one exists. Here it is.

After a great coffee night out with like-minded moms – I left feeling empowered, valued and supported. I came home and began dreaming of this space – where intentional moms could gather, when a coffee night isn’t possible, and leave with those same feelings of worth and inspiration. And LiL Light O’ Mine (now CourtneyDeFeo.com) was born to essentially expand our circle of friends and never do this journey alone. You will find 20 relatable moms in this community that share a dream – we believe our kids can light up the world.

We believe in sharing real stories about the messiness and the beauty – found in faith, parenting and marriage. We believe peace is possible in chaos. We believe grace is real. We believe that women spur each other on. Let’s get to know each other and let our lights shine brighter together than they ever could alone.

Over the summer, I want you to get to know them better through a few real photos and a few simple questions. Feel free to ask them your own questions. And share your story too in the comments below.

Meet Jennifer Scott!

Three photos and three questions that share a little bit about her real life.

My junk drawer has rolled over into two, plus a counter and a cabinet.

This is the view from my favorite comfy spot to sit. I have recovered the rocker/glider from the nursery twice in 10 years because it is a family favorite spot and, therefore, tends to get some wear and tear.

And I love this picture of my family being ‘real’ because I dropped back on a walk and snapped it. Everyone’s personalities are captured well–the animal lover, the relational child and the moody one 😉

Three questions for Jennifer.

What keeps you up at night?

Honestly, not much keeps me up at night. I sleep like a rock! On the rare occasion I am unable to fall asleep, it always tends to be trouble over a challenging relationship or an area where I am convicted about some unforgiveness in my life.

What’s your favorite part about being a mom?

The best part of being a Mom is absolutely the unsolicited expressions of love from child to parent. When my children show kindness or compassion to me without prompting–especially when they encourage me or offer to do something to lighten my load– my heart wants to leap out of my chest.

What’s the hardest part of parenting?

The hardest part of parenting is reminding myself constantly that God, not me, is writing their story. This means stepping back, praying before I jump in and a willingness to follow His lead in their life rather than merely exercising my own will for them.

I’d love to know you too!

  1. thanks my friend. i love seeing a little slice of your life. i’m coming one day to sit in that chair across from you to talk. and i TOTALLY agree with the hardest part of parenting. i am a control freak and realizing that they are going to walk through hard times every year is hard to swallow. that they are growing and God has them is assurance. it’s making me trust him more. thanks for being a part of this blog. you inspire me more than you know.

  2. So nice to “meet” you Jennifer! And, I notice your husband is wearing a YL tshirt in that photo. In my estimation, anyone involved with Young Life is the “real deal” – Blessings to you!
