The Blessing Ring
I cannot find the words to adequately describe Bobbie Wolgemuth.
- How do you sum up a woman fighting Stage 4 Cancer – who sings and paints and praises God all the way through it?
- How do you sum up a woman who encourages others in her greatest time of needs?
- How do you sum up a woman that pours into the lives of so many young mothers – even now?
You just can’t sum up someone this special. All you can do is try to shed a little light. Meet my friend, Bobbie.
One of the single biggest blessings of moving to Orlando was meeting Bobbie and Robert Wolgemuth. These two are precious people. And, Robert is my agent for my book. That is so super weird to say I have an agent – and I can tell the long story another day.
Today is about Bobbie. I met her thanks to many of the women she mentors at First Pres. We had just moved here (February 2012) and my girls were at The Weekday School (part of that church). So many of the moms were mentioning their Bible Study leader – and how much they loved her. It wasn’t long after I arrived that they asked for my prayers …
Part 1 – Bobbie has cancer
This video perfectly describes Bobbie’s journey on Part 1 of her story. Please take a minute to see the joy that radiates from within. It’s real. She’s the real deal.
There is so much more to the story, but her numbers miraculously came down. And God continued to work through the entire situation.
Part 2 – Cancer is back
Just a couple months ago, news spread that Bobbie’s cancer was back. I was anxious to get over there and see her… but no Southern woman shows up empty handed! I knew how much her Bible Study girls have meant to her. They have a prayer schedule by the HOUR and have since this began.
I remembered a Blessing Ring that my friend Lindsey had made for her high school girls. It was a chance for her to send high schoolers off to college with a ring full of encouragement. A collection of their favorite notes, cards, anything that would bring them joy. This would be the perfect gift!
Blessing Ring For Bobbie
I am only sharing this with you because I am pretty certain you have someone in your life facing life’s biggest struggle right now. This might be one idea when you have NO IDEA how to take away their pain.
I simply emailed Bobbie’s prayer warriors from First Pres and asked them to send me ONE PHOTO of their family and ONE VERSE for Bobbie. I made a template using Word (don’t gag or faint designers) – and inserted new pic/verse each time. Then, printed and laminated each one using these sheets from Target.
I punched holes in the corner and tied together. I got the ring from the sewing section at Hobby Lobby. Let a few ribbons hang down for fun.
Lindsey provided me with this Blessing Ring Poem to go on the front.
She has loved it!
Do you know what though? In true Bobbie fashion – I walked away receiving more than I had to give. When you sit with Bobbie for two hours you feel God’s love and peace. You hear how God is working through her and every detail of her story. It is breathtaking. She encourages, she inspires and she lights up my heart. I left in awe of this woman and so very grateful to know her.
A couple motherhood quotes from Bobbie during our lunch. Priceless:
My job as a mother is not to remove all my children’s problems, but to teach them to handle them Biblically.
My children do not need a perfect mother. They need a mother who shows them where to go to be transformed.
While we sat there and cried and laughed over every topic from eternity to her precious daughters to marriage…. She also told me about one of her dear friends (another author they represent) – “someone you must meet!” I was so thrilled to hear a very personal side to the name Wendy Blight of Proverbs 31. I’m so honored Wendy and I have connected and she asked me to write over on her blog today.

That is fabulous! I LOVE that idea – now just need to implement it:). Thank you for the wonderful ideas and thoughts you always bring to me. I want to be like you “when I grow up”:))
kate – made me smile. 🙂
Thanks you so much for putting this blessing ring together for Bobbie! I can only imagine the countless hours she has spent in prayer for me and the other ladies in our Bible study, and I consider it a blessing to pray for this dear woman every day at 10am. It has transformed my prayer life in unbelievable ways. Who knew cancer could do that?!?
We have very much appreciated Bobbi’s wisdom and gifts in the Hymns for Kids books. I had no idea of her current struggle; thanks for sharing!
Courtney, I love this and we are going to use this idea for a friend who has recently gone through her third miscarriage! Would you be willing to share your Word Template with us?! I could try re-creating it but yours looks so nice. Thanks!
i’d love to! will you email me at courtney@lillightomine.com
I sent you an email about the blessing ring template as well. Thank you so much for a sweet way to help a friend!
Wondered if you and your followers might be interested in looking over the blog of a local gal who is now in hospice care as she lives through her last days of cancer. She is the thirty-something wife of a local pastor/church planter and mother of four littlles. Her book, The Hardest Peace, is becoming a best seller as she speaks about meeting grace in the mundane days of faithfulness. Her blog on Facebook is Mundane Faithfulness. Her story blesses many and will continue to do so long after she’s gone.

Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I
guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any helpful hints for beginner blog writers?
I’d genuinely appreciate it.
